Summit holds promise for linked education goals

One possible outcome from the Auckland Education Summit, to be held this month, is for the goals of the education, local government, business and community sectors to be linked more cohesively than has been the case in the past.

What needs to happen in order for education to make a full contribution to Auckland’s and New Zealand’s future?
The Cognition Institute, together with COMET, is convening the Auckland Education Summit as a chance for leaders from Auckland’s political, commercial, social and educational sectors to help shape the best plan of action for Auckland’s education challenges.
More than $4 billion of funding comes in to education in Auckland each year but too many of Auckland’s students are leaving school each year without a qualification. The social and economic costs are high. Radical change is needed.

Presenters include Auckland Mayor Len Brown, Professor Sir Peter Gluckman, Angus Fletcher. Actions identified during the Auckland Education Summit will form part of a programme of work to be supported by the Cognition Institute and COMET for the year.
